The Heart Behind Daughters on Loan
At Daughters on Loan, we understand the complexities of caring for aging loved ones because our entire team, in one way or another, has been there.
Established in 2016, this family-run business was founded by sisters Desray and Marissa, inspired by their deeply personal journey of supporting their own parents. While distance often separated the family, Desray and Marissa frequently travelled to assist, joined by their elder sister Maxine, their brothers-in-law, and grandchildren. Meanwhile, their second-born sister Renée and her family, based in Durban, provided vital on-the-ground care.
This shared experience taught the sisters firsthand the challenges families face – especially when living far from those they love most. It became clear to them that many families, like theirs, needed a compassionate, all-in-one solution for senior care. This realization gave life to Daughters on Loan, a name lovingly coined by a close family member and a friend.
Inspired by Personal Experience, Driven by Compassion
With over 30 years of combined professional experience, Desray and Marissa bring a unique blend of skills to this endeavour. Desray’s background in bookkeeping complements Marissa’s expertise in office management and logistics, both in the Corporate world and community space, creating a strong foundation for the services on offer. Beyond their professional credentials, their personal journey deepened their understanding of the unique needs of seniors and their families.
This story includes milestones of love and resilience and a deep sense of responsibility. Dad, Hymie, diagnosed with dementia, passed in 2010 after 56 years of marriage. Mom, Jeannette, moved to a retirement home in 2011 and lived a vibrant, contented life until her passing in 2022 at the age of 92. Tragically, in 2021, the three sisters lost Maxine to pancreatic cancer and during her illness Desray and Marissa played an integral role in her care, being fortunate to reside in the same city. These experiences shaped their mission – to provide the high quality and compassionate care they know that your loved ones deserve.

Today, Daughters on Loan has grown into a team of nine compassionate “Daughters,” each committed to ensuring seniors receive personalized care across Cape Town’s various suburbs. Whether helping with daily tasks or simply being a comforting presence, the entire team is here to provide support that respects, uplifts, and treats each client like family.
