"The best decision we made and we have never looked back: Two years ago, with my mother in a step down facility after breaking her hip, we were faced with the difficult choice of either moving her into a Home or finding a way for her to remain in her flat. Remaining in the flat was the preferred choice, but we had a number of practical considerations, as I live in Johannesburg and my brothers live overseas. While our family in Cape Town are incredibly supportive, there are times that they are away or not available. Asking them to take responsibility for my mom was too much to expect. We chose Robin’s Trust to provide live in care but were still concerned about relying on family in Cape Town to do shopping and other ad-hoc requirements. Someone recommended Daughters On Loan and after meeting with Marissa and Desray we decided that the service they offered would provide just what we needed. It was the best decision we made and we have never looked back. Over the past 2 years they have shopped for my mom weekly, as well as helping out with various unforeseen requirements. Marissa and her sister Desray are ideally suited for this type of service: In the last year, I needed help assisting my late dad who was 93 and living independently in a retirement complex without carers.  I was kept very busy shopping for him, doing his admin, paying accounts and, in-between, trying to spend a little quality time keeping him company. My elderly parents were in a crisis situation still living in their large family home when my Dad had a life changing stroke. The situation was made more complex as I live in London. They support and guide you through the turbulent times while reminding you that you are human. They are solutionnaires, companions and very good listeners especially when you feel you will be judged as a very bad person.
