Daughter on Loan took care of my Mother's daily needs, sorting out cupboards, doing the weekly shopping and popping in for a chat. This was a massive help for my sister and I as we both live abroad. In the last year, I needed help assisting my late dad who was 93 and living independently in a retirement complex without carers.  I was kept very busy shopping for him, doing his admin, paying accounts and, in-between, trying to spend a little quality time keeping him company. There were many times when I couldn't always get there and Marissa had offered to assist. She would shop for him and drop off groceries, make him tea and spend time chatting to him. He loved the company and it was a huge help to me and freed me up to spend more time with him. Marissa is a compassionate, kind, caring person who loves helping people in need, particularly the elderly (I know the family and they are all wonderful, warm people with integrity). I agreed with her that there was a huge need for this type of service (I know many people with elderly parents who need help) and was very happy to hear that she has decided to pursue this as a business. I am not sure how we would have managed without Daughters on Loan. Like so many South Africans, my sister and I live overseas. So when my elderly Mom moved to independent living in a retirement community, we needed someone we could all call on to do the things we would have done had we been there. Marissa and Desray shopped for groceries, they helped with tax returns and car licenses, they bought her special treats and delivered flowers to her door, they invited her to lunch, and stopped by for tea. They made her feel like family. Sometimes my Mom could be demanding, but Daughters on Loan took it in their stride. They are kind and compassionate, efficient and understanding. Now that my Mom has passed, we continue to use their services to help us tie up loose ends. I don't quite know what we would have done without them. Highly- highly recommended.

Daughters on Loan went way beyond the call of duty to ensure that the move was as stress-free for my Mother as possible. For many years my Mother lived close by.  I felt safe in the knowledge that my family were just around the block to have her in our home for Friday night dinners, give lifts, keep an eye on her and help where she needed help. One of the most worrying things about our family moving to New York was knowing that I would no longer have the close proximity to her.  It has been a huge relief these last months to have the help of Daughters on Loan. They have taken over the caring of my Mother with grace and efficiency and have managed the practical issues of staff, doctors and groceries, as well as the emotional issues. Particularly now during this strange new time they have been indispensable.

Daughters on Loan have been absolute life savers for us. They have truly become our surrogate sisters. Taking care of everything for our parents in our absence. Thank you Desray and Marissa - Daughters on Loan for coming through for our organisation so swiftly and professionally. Never mind that I called you for advice on a recommended transportation company to get donated items from Cape Town to Durban only to find out I was in the wrong province… the items were actually in JHB! No problem to Daughters on Loan… they didn’t only give us advice; they arranged the whole thing for us! In less than 24 hours, the items were collected in JHB, wrapped and boxed and delivered to Durban!!! Such a pleasure! Huge Thank You

I called in Daughters on Loan, Marissa and Desray, at a moment’s notice with a very complicated unpacking of my Mom’s entire flat’s contents, some of which had been in storage for more than six months and the rest in temporary accommodation while the flat was renovated. Marissa came almost immediately to have a look at what it entailed and within 24 hours they began the job. They had very little guidance as to where things were meant to go as my Mom was in hospital and I couldn’t be there much of the time. They used their own initiative, they had a key, they could come and go as they liked, they “clocked” in and out with me via Whats App. They worked tirelessly, carefully and sensitively over three separate days, 19,5 hours in total. They are a pleasure to work with and come HIGHLY recommended.

We are so grateful for everything that Marissa and Desray have done to help our Mom move from her apartment into Highlands House. They did a wonderful job helping to sort and pack her possessions, organise the clearing and cleaning out of her flat, and then unpack and sort out her new room ready for her arrival. And all done efficiently and with sensitivity. They kept us well informed and updated at all times and were exceptionally easy to work with. We feel confident in the knowledge that they are around should our Mom need help of any kind going forward. We don’t know what we would have done if we hadn’t been lucky enough to have found them.

Two years ago, with my mother in a step down facility after breaking her hip, we were faced with the difficult choice of either moving her into a Home or finding a way for her to remain in her flat. Remaining in the flat was the preferred choice, but we had a number of practical considerations, as I live in Johannesburg and my brothers live overseas. While our family in Cape Town are incredibly supportive, there are times that they are away or not available. Asking them to take responsibility for my mom was too much to expect. We chose Robin’s Trust to provide live in care but were still concerned about relying on family in Cape Town to do shopping and other ad-hoc requirements. Someone recommended Daughters On Loan and after meeting with Marissa and Desray we decided that the service they offered would provide just what we needed. It was the best decision we made and we have never looked back. Over the past 2 years they have shopped for my mom weekly, as well as helping out with various unforeseen requirements. They have been there through various crises, helping to coordinate with Doctors, Pharmacies, Robins Trust, staff and various other service providers. They are attentive, responsive and always available to go the extra mile. I’m not sure what we would have done without them during the Covid crises when our family in Cape Town were locked down and unable to assist. I have no hesitation recommending their services. Desray and Marissa are simply the best. I am not sure what I would have done without them. My elderly parents were in a crisis situation still living in their large family home when my Dad had a life changing stroke. The situation was made more complex as I live in London. They quickly found an excellent frail care facility nearby for him to be cared for. They helped me find a retirement flat in the same building where my Mother now lives. Over a 6-week period they sensitively, methodically and efficiently sorted through all of my parents’ many belongings and cleared the house ready for it to be sold. On the day of moving my Mum to her retirement flat they directed operations in the most organised way, and rolled up their sleeves so that the move and all the unpacking happened all on one day. They interacted with my Mother in a caring and compassionate manner. I know that if I need their help again, they are just a WhatsApp away.

I can highly recommend Marissa, Desray and their team at Daughters on Loan if you need anyone to step in to help in your absence.  I was in London and needed an entire flat, packed and emptied and contents taken to various recipients, including overseas. Daughters on Loan organised this calmly and efficiently and turned what could have been a nightmare into a dream. They responded to all my requests, large or small, with sensitivity, a smile and with speed and the whole process could not have gone smoother. I was tremendously impressed by the team who were incredibly kind and conscientious in packing my things up and moving me. Everything was carefully wrapped so that nothing at all was broken. I have no intention of ever moving again, but if I did, I would use the Daughters on Loan team – they are incredible, and very inexpensive for the quality of service.

I have known Desray and Marissa for a number of years since they took on the task of providing for my brother who is a resident of Highlands House, Cape Town. I have found them to be highly professional. Not only do they attend to the needs that they have been contracted for in a highly professional manner but they also carry out these duties with care and affection.
